Lofoten Museum

LOFOTEN MUSEUM

The Lofoten Museum is situated in an idyllic spot by the water’s edge, on the site of the medieval town of Vágar. The impressive manor house was completed in 1815, when Caspar Lorch was the owner of the fishing village. Here he traded and exported fish, as well as renting out cabins to the fishermen who came to join the winter season. Discover the contrast between life in the manor house and the authentic «rorbu»-cabins. There are also several boathouses with a large collection of traditional wooden boats to explore, as well as a charming “krambu”, or general store, and a lovely garden with historic perennials. Private guiding by appointment.

Lofoten Museum is a part of the upcoming attraction/visitor center/center of knowledgde/museum SKREI, which also includes the Espolin Gallery and Lofoten Aquarium. All three attractions are located within close walking distance in Storvågan, outside Kabelvåg. Buy our combination ticket and experience the nature, culture and history of Lofoten. If you are looking for a bite to eat in the vincinity, Nyvågar Rorbuhotel offers lunch and dinner made with local ingredients – and the Lofoten aquarium waffles, sandwiches and ice cream.

The Lofoten Museum is located within walking distance from The Lofoten Aquarium and The Espolin Gallery. Visit all three with a combination ticket.
