The Espolin Gallery

THE ESPOLIN GALLERY

The Espolin Gallery houses a chieftain within Norwegian art. Be moved by the expressive power of the artist Kaare Espolin Johnson (1907–1994), as he visualizes a dramatic history and life of the people living by the coast.

The grand scenery of Lofoten has inspired many artists, few kept in such high regard as Kaare Espolin Johnson. Watch a beautiful film where the artist tells of his practice and experience the artworks and the northern scenery through the eyes of the artist.

The Espolin Gallery lies in Storvågan just outside the centre of Kabelvåg, a 10 minutes’ drive from Svolvær.

The Espolin Gallery is a part of the upcoming center of knowledge and experience SKREI (opens winter 2026) which also includes the Lofoten Museum and Lofoten Aquarium. All three attractions are located within close walking distance in Storvågan, outside Kabelvåg. Buy our combination ticket and experience the nature, culture and history of Lofoten. If you are looking for a bite to eat in the vincinity, Nyvågar Rorbuhotel offers lunch and dinner made with local ingredients – and the Lofoten Aquarium offers quick snacks as sandwiches, waffles and ice cream.
